INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR EDUCATION.

Theme: Changing course, transforming education.

The International Day of Education is observed every year on January 24, as declared by UNESCO. At SACTS, it is a special day because a crucial focus of our mission is EDUCATION.🥳 In this article, we shall be looking at some of the benefits of education, the challenges so far and the way forward.

BENEFITS OF EDUCATION

• Increased gender equality

Education gives the Girl Child too, an opportunity to compete for positions of authority in her society.

• Reduction in crimes

A hungry man is an angry man. The more children have access to education, the less they are tempted to steal or become thugs in the future. You might find it hard to believe what desperation has led people to do.

• Alleviating poverty

What better way to get the “better Nigeria” we clamor to have? Education opens up multiple streams of income that will reduce poverty in our country.

IMPACT OF PANDEMIC ON EDUCATION

Pandemic hit hard and did not spare the educational sector. Due to the pandemic:

• Some children lost their parents/guardians and had to pause their education.
• Months of unfinished learning resulted in many kids lagging in their school work.
• Poor school transition.
• Poor learning achievement.

How Did We Respond To The Pandemic ?

When life gives you lemons, you make lemonades, they say. The pandemic was ruthless, but we are more than victors. Here are five ways the educational system has adapted:

• Radio learning/ TV schooling
• In-house graduation
• Online courses
• Virtual libraries
• Homeschooling

What does SACTS do?

Our mission is to ensure underserved and vulnerable children have access to education. We make this possible by:

• Constantly working to pay school fees as we discovered it is the main obstacle to quality education.
• Provide a platform where underserved children can thrive.
• Create awareness campaigns for the children to know that they matter too
• Partner with numerous orphanages to provide them with materials that guarantee sustenance and a better life for the children.
• Create a lasting impact on everyone we reach

What does SACTS do in respect to education?

• We liaise with orphanages to make education accessible to underserved children.
• We also provide vocational skills that help the children become more in life.
• We help build schools and libraries.

How can teachers engage in the transformation of the educational system?

As there’s no end in sight for this pandemic, the best course of action will be for the teachers to:

• Embrace tech as the new norm and enroll in courses that can make them tech savvy.
• Become innovative and develop new techniques of teaching in the schools.
