A wake-up call: Education, The bedrock of the Nation

Sponsor a child through school

In the UNESCO’s Institute for Statistics (UIS)’s Global Education Monitoring Report 2019, the following appalling stats were found:

“ – the poorest children & youth in low income countries are less than half as likely to complete primary school education…. are less than quarter as likely to complete lower secondary school… … and are 1/10 as likely to complete upper education

“ – Children in rural areas are over twice more likely to be out of school than children born in urban areas in low income countries.

“ – only 2% of the poorest girls in low income countries complete upper secondary school”

In Nigeria, there are over 10 million out-of-school children, a world record!!!!! 27 million children in school are performing very poorly, millions of Nigerians are half educated, and approximately 30% are illiterate…

About a decade before the Sustainable development goals were set by the United Nations in 2015, Sponsor a Child through School (S.A.C.T.S) was formed as a not-for-profit organization, Non-governmental Organization to provide life-changing opportunities for the orphans and less privileged children.

Education transform lives; therefore, it is the core mission of S.A.C.T.S. to ensure that orphans and less-privileged children are given an opportunity at life through quality education.

S.A.C.T.S purpose revolves around the fact that well educated workers/entrepreneurs are the building blocks of a modern, productive and diversified economy. If Nigeria, and by extension Africa, is to reach the economic productivity and development potentials, it must be able to provide and develop education and training of necessary human capital for its growing economy.

Sponsor a Child through School (SACTS) started as an orphanage visit initiatives amongst a group of people, then colleagues who visited the orphanages twice a year and provided them with food items, toiletries, household equipment etc. This they did for some time before they realized the need to make more lasting impact in the lives of orphans and less privileged. Granting these children access to quality education is an opportunity to level out the disadvantage they may have had through birth circumstances.

Currently, Sponsor a Child through School is sponsoring over 100 children, we have had 12 outreach events/webinars that focuses on building the morals of the children, opening their minds to think positively and create a good life for themselves and we are in partnership with 14 schools and orphanages across the country.

We look to deepening our impact in the lives of our children and also increase the number of children under our sponsorship to 300 by 2022.

In our mission to empower the underprivileged child, we see a need for a new kind of outcome that comes through multiplied efforts. We know that impact can be created when well-meaning individuals and organizations lend their hearts, efforts and pockets to a cause as this. Kathy Calvin was spot on when she said “Giving is not just about making a donation. It is about making a difference”.
