Scott Adams once said, “ remember there is no such thing as small acts of kindness. Every act creates a ripple with no logical end”
We first heard of JOCHEBED Schools in May. At the time of admission, this low-income school in the fishing community of Badore Ajah, Lagos, only had fewer than five classrooms, held together by half-rotten planks, leaking roofs, and a horrible sanitary system.
SACTS, being no “JJC” to supporting low-income schools, decided to take steps toward progress, and that is when our partner, Mr Joachim Adenusi suggested he launch Cycling4Impact 2.0.
The campaign was so named because it is the second of its kind. Cycling4impact 1.0 had been held a year before for the Miracle Land Schools in Jakande- where he, Mr Joachim, had cycled 45 km- to encourage people to be a part of the cause. We raised over N800k for the school through this awareness.
This year too, he did not hesitate to set the ball rolling. As a matter of fact, he cycled 100 miles in the UK for this cause and together with several donors and partners, we were able to raise over a million naira for the school.
Now, if you are not too familiar with cycling, here is a little gist.
Cycling 45km (30 miles) takes no less than two hours of pedalling to complete, meaning Mr Joachim cycled over eight hours this year to help encourage another successful fundraising campaign.
Recall that at the beginning of this article, we quoted Scott Adams: “every act of kindness (including cycling for 8 hours at a stretch) can create a ripple with no logical end”. This begs the question: What can you do to help sponsor a child’s education?
Thanks to well-meaning individuals and corporates, we hit our target for fundraising and will begin the renovations during the holidays.
Joachim’s Cycling4impact is an act of kindness that may seem little to some but is such that will give many children a conducive learning space, a place to fulfil their dreams.
