“The journey of a thousand miles starts with a step, and if it is the right step, it becomes the best one.”
As an NGO dedicated to providing orphans and less privileged children opportunities for a better future, we have always believed that our children should have additional economic prospects alongside education.
So this month of April, for us at SACTS , saw the seeds of our passion sprout. The initial plan was to have a vocational training session but one thing led to another and there was a little detour.
Let us walk you through it:
– In January, we decided our compulsory vocational training programme initiatives needed a focal point.
– Our internal survey revealed that our point of focus should be TECH
– We came up with the plan of providing basic I.T training for our children even though there were no resources in sight at the time.
– Eventually, in March, one partner donated fourteen laptops to us and the other supplied us with a data subscription that would last for about two months.
– A tech company also committed to facilitating the I.T training programme for our kids- physically!.
That is it! A seemingly unrealistic goal now in motion. We are grateful for all the support received so far. What did we take away from our experience so far? Do not be too scared to start. We want
you to also apply this principle to Our goal is to provide about 1000 orphans and less privileged children in Nigeria with basic technology skills that will increase their economic prospects even with you education. We want them to have a good life regardless of the circumstances of their birth. With the way things came out surprisingly well and the kind of future we envisage for our
children, we are confident that this is a step in the right direction. To us, this is another version of “journey of a thousand miles starts with a step, and if it is the right step, it becomes the last one”
We see all of our initiatives being the “last” we have to take to groom responsible individuals in the society. We see it as the “last” step that will help reduce the number of potential criminals in society. While we will never bite more than we can chew, we need your help. The resources we have can only cater for a handful of children and when you help us, we are able to provide:
● More laptops for facilitators and teachers
● Internet for learners
● Insurance for devices
● Conducive environment for learning
● Reading and writing materials for learners
● Tuition for our children
● Stipends for caregivers
