According to an article by BBC on July 25, 2017 (https://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-40715305), Nigeria accounts for the highest number of out-of-school children in the world. With an estimated 10.5 million children out of school, it is fair to say that a high percentage of this statistic is the less privileged children.
Education for these children has become a luxury they can’t afford. To some, it will only be a dream. All they pray for daily is to find at least one square meal to keep body and soul together. As Important as education is, some of the children might never know what the four walls of a classroom look like, let alone going through the system.
With our ever-growing population, the number of uneducated children increases by the day. Little wonder, children are found hawking or loitering around when they ought to be in school. It is often said that education is the key. However, some children do not have access to this key.
Over the years, charity organizations such as SACTS(Sponsor a Child To School) (http://sactsng.org/ )have taken several steps to bridge not only the education gap but to make life worth living for the less privileged children by implementing various programs such as orphanage outreaches, sponsoring a child to school, donating teaching and learning materials to schools in poor communities etc.
Nigerians are known to be charitable especially when it comes to children but the question is, how often do you take actions to show your concern for these children? You might have it rosy on the other side but a child somewhere only knows thorns all his life.
